Whether you want to play a mobile game with a mouse and keyboard or you just prefer using the mobile version of a specific productivity app, running Android on your Windows PC is incredibly useful.
While Microsoft has experimented with native Android support in the past, the absolute best, most reliable, and easiest method remains using a dedicated emulator. And the undisputed king of emulators is BlueStacks.
How to get started
- Head over to the official BlueStacks website and download the latest version (BlueStacks 5).
- Run the installer.
- Once it opens, you will be greeted by a standard Android home screen. Click on the Google Play Store, sign in with your Google account, and you are ready to download any app available on mobile.
🔥 The pro-tip: Enable hardware virtualization (VT-x)
If you launch BlueStacks and notice that the animations are choppy or your games are lagging, do not uninstall it! Your PC is likely holding it back.
To run a virtual operating system smoothly, your computer needs permission to use “Hardware Virtualization.” By default, many PC manufacturers leave this feature turned off.
To fix this:
- Restart your PC and press F2, F10, or Del (depending on your brand) to enter the BIOS.
- Look for a setting called Virtualization Technology, VT-x, or SVM Mode.
- Change it from Disabled to Enabled.
- Save and exit.
When your PC reboots, open BlueStacks again. The performance increase will be massive, giving you a buttery smooth Android experience right on your desktop.
