The Mac versus PC debate has been raging for decades. While Apple has made incredible strides with their custom silicon chips, leading to fantastic battery life and video editing performance, Windows PCs still hold a massive advantage in several core areas. If you are on the fence about your next computer purchase, here are five things a PC just does better.

1. The ultimate gaming experience

This is the undeniable heavyweight champion of PC advantages. The Windows ecosystem has Steam, Epic Games, Xbox Game Pass, and native support for virtually every game ever released. While Apple has tried to push gaming on macOS, the library is incredibly limited. If you want to play AAA titles at high frame rates, you need a PC.

2. Hardware freedom and upgradability

When you buy a Mac, you are locked in. The RAM and storage are soldered directly to the motherboard. If you realize you need 32GB of RAM instead of 16GB two years from now, you have to buy an entirely new machine. On a desktop PC, upgrading your RAM, swapping in a massive new hard drive, or slotting in a next-gen graphics card takes five minutes and a screwdriver.

3. Superior window management

Windows 11 has perfected multitasking. You can grab a window, drag it to the corner of your screen, and it flawlessly snaps into a perfectly proportioned grid. While macOS has third-party tools to mimic this, the native window management on a PC is significantly more intuitive and faster for productivity.

4. Flawless backward compatibility

Apple has a habit of aggressively abandoning older architecture (moving from PowerPC to Intel, and Intel to Apple Silicon). This means old software frequently breaks. Windows, on the other hand, is built on a foundation of massive backward compatibility. You can take a random software program written in 2004, double-click the .exe file on a brand new Windows 11 machine, and it will likely run perfectly.

5. Unbeatable price-to-performance

The “Apple Tax” is real. While a base-model MacBook Air is a good value, upgrading a Mac’s RAM or storage at checkout costs exorbitant amounts of money. For the price of a high-end Mac Studio, you can build a custom Windows rig with bleeding-edge components that will absolutely obliterate heavy rendering tasks and gaming benchmarks.
